Configuration Problems
Published on September 18, 2006 By bmetelsky In Personal Computing
I have installed Windows Live Messenger on VistaRC1. I started playing around with the different customization settings (background, themepacks, etc) and am left with a fairly ugly looking thing. Does anyone know how to revert back so that what I see is the default setup? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and have the same problem. Thanks in advance.

I have been playing with messenger and I see no way to default back to the original settings. Let me play some more.

Thanks - I'm almost ready to reformat my Vista partition and reinstall everything just get it back to default (which is a bit extreme - why do they make it so difficult).

Try clearing the cache and reloading.

And the cache would be located where?

The internet cache: control panel>internet options.
Under the General tab, click the settings button in the temporary internet settings area and clear the cache.

You might want to clear all the MSN cookies as well.

Not helpful clearing the cache or cookies. I can't figure this out - nothing in the registry either that would hold the configuration.

Greg2,

Thanks a million! I can't believe I missed the default background. Messenger Live is now restored to it's original state (those dynamic backgrounds can be quite distracting after a while).
